WHAT WE HAVE DONE SO FAR

CETU was set up in August 2005 and between then and February 2006 we raised the money to buy the land for the school. Money was raised through a sponsored climb of Kilimanjaro, individual donations and events. Thanks to everyone who contributed! We bought two acres of land in Buloba, a village to the west of Kampala, along the Mityana Road.

$34,000 was raised for the construction of the school through the GVN Foundation by volunteers who completed another sponsored climb of Kilimanjaro.

The clearing of the land began in November 2006 and the construction was completed at the end of February 2007. Look at the building project here.
WHAT WE ARE DOING AT THE MOMENT

The school opened on 26th February 2007 with 5 classrooms, a girls and a boys dormitory, bathrooms and a kitchen. In our first term we have had 27 pupils studying with us. The number of children we can support depends on how many sponsors we have. If you are interested in sponsoring a child, please click here.

We have already had some very kind donations of equipment to enable us to furnish the school. Laptops to run the organisation have been donated by Bain & Company and the funds to buy all our text books have been donated by OCEP.

We are currently searching for laboratory equipment, sports equipment, computers and books for a library. If you are able to donate any of these things, please email Sarah at sarah@cetu.org.uk.
WHAT WE WANT TO DO IN THE FUTURE

We gradually want to expand our school by buying the plot of land next door to continue constructing so that we can eventually accommodate 800 children.

We also want to build additional facilities, including staff and volunteer quarters, a library, a computer room and a laboratory. Eventually, we would also like to build a vocational school and to partner with a micro-loan programme so that the pupils would have job opportunities when they leave.
