OUR AIM

Our aim is to promote education for disadvantaged children throughout Uganda. We are doing this by opening a new secondary school, Springs of Hope High School, for orphans and those whose parents cannot afford school fees.

The school teaches students from Senior 1 - Senior 2 at the moment (14-14 years old). As our first intake of pupils moves through the school to Senior 6, we will offer both 'O' and 'A' levels as well as vocational training to ensure that these children get the most appropriate start along their chosen career path. The school is run as a boarding school and charges no fees.

The capacity of the school is currently 150 and by 2012, we hope to have increased this so we can teach 800 students.

OUR ORGANISATION

CETU was set up in 2005 by Angelo Kabunga and Sarah Harvey when Sarah was working as a volunteer in Uganda. CETU is a registered NGO in Uganda.

Angelo Kabunga is the Headmaster of Springs of Hope High School. He has been a science teacher for six years, spending the last year as a Headmaster.

Yusuf Kabanda is the Treasurer for CETU and is ably assisted by both Susan Mudondo and Jane Kabunga.

WHY WE ARE NEEDED

Education is something that children all over the world take for granted, but for many in Uganda education is something they can only dream of. The Ugandan government have introduced Universal Primary Education, but after this secondary education is prohibitively expensive. Average school fees are almost x1.5 of the average income per person in Uganda.

Buloba, where the school is being built, does not have a secondary school and the majority of children would never get the chance to continue their education. This in turn means that they have no qualifications or vocational experience and therefore struggle to get jobs. Springs of Hope High School aims to improve this situation both for the children in Buloba as well as those who have been orphaned throughout Uganda, as a result of the LRA conflict or AIDS.
